I don't know if you're solely committed to writing on the technopotheosis, but I would read the hell out of a novel about a Pop-like figure coming out of Finland to America around the same time your grandfather was, and making a life here.
Thank you. I've thought about writing just such a novel, but I doubt I'll ever get around to it, for two reasons: 1: too much work! I would need to do a year of research, and I don't know how to manufacture a year. 2: it's hard enough just establishing myself (or my 'brand,' oy) with all of my books so far playing in the same general area. I'd love to break out of it, but my current path is insanely risky already -- going farther afield, I fear, would be even riskier.
But as long as we're fantasizing about non technopotheistic novels I would love to write, here's another one that's been my head for years: A novelization of the friendship between Virginia Durr and Jessica Mitford. Holy cow, an intense story. And what a cast of characters! From Pete Seeger & Rosa Parks to Hugo Black and Lyndon & Ladybird Johnson to the Mitford sisters to M.L. King jr & assorted Hollywood moguls. Alas, that one would require even *more* research. . .
Beautiful article. A lovely homage to your Grandfather. Thank you. 🧡

You're a great raconteur, which in my book beats a great memoir writer.
Why, thank you, Richard. I'm just trying to figure it out.
