Something by Goddard, I expect, lol. Like 'Weekend,' maybe. I expect it's not a fair comment -- Americans, Germans, Italians, Japanese, among others -- are all very good at making boring movies. But I still think it's funny.
Of course the misquote of the Airplane's lyric sent me instantly in search of ground truth. A bootless quest, as it turned out, as your misquote had been witting. Thanks very much. I'm not familiar enough with Zappa to have spotted the second misquote.
I'm pretty sure the misquote is "One pill makes you larger" which, if you listen closely, is actually, "I asked for it with oat milk, not almond milk."
Now then, *this* is what I call a true and proper comment appropriate to the post I have constructed for y'all, with a much greater investment of time & thought than may be apparent: The singular 'lyric;' 'ground truth' (perfect!); 'bootless'!!!! Even more impressive than 'ground truth' (c.f. Shakespeare, William, Sonnet 29:
"When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,"
and so on and so forth.
And then, and then, the marachino cherry atop your short, pithy banana split of a comment, the word "witting":
witting /wĭt′ĭng/
adjective
Aware or conscious of something.
Done intentionally or with premeditation; deliberate.
Keith, this is a word that is new to me. I thank you so very much. And not only because it's complimentary. What an awesome word! How have I gone 72 years & then some without leaning it?
And for all of this you have made no substantive comment about the ostensible subject of my post, literary theory. Which is about the most literary-theoretic thing you could have done. Wherefore I must award you, Keith, 10 out of 10, a perfect score. I thank and salute you!
Dude i want to be you when I grow up. I own every book you picture here, you're a braver critic than I allow myself to be, my own books are covered in notes and embossed ex libris thingies and anyone who quotes Grace Slick amid all that is my personal hero
Which French films was Mamet talking about, I wonder!

Aw shucks. Thanks. I found another doppleganger. Love it when that happens.
